MobiDic – The Mobile Dictionary

Foreign workers in Denmark often experience difficulties with the Danish language. This project is addressed to workers, who speak Polish, German or English and offers them free mini dictionaries.

The dictionaries are a practical help at work and in one’s leisure time as they contain words and sentences from every day life and work life. A dictionary exists in all four languages, addressed to the building trade, the areas within health and care and the transport sector, respectively.

A side from a print version - a java based version and an online version were also developed for the mobile phone. By using the online version, the advantage is that sentences can be read to the user and thereby increase one’s listening-comprehension.

The partners in this project were:

3F
BAT-kartellet (The Cartel of Building, Plant and Wood)
Dansk Byggeri (The Danish Construction Association)
Social- og sundhedsskolen Fredericia og Horsens (the School of Care and Health in Fredericia and Horsens)
UC Syd (University College South Denmark)

The project was supported by the Local Employment Counsel in Vejle
